Long-term Substitute Special Education Classroom Teacher K - 8
Job Description
The Duquesne Education Center provides educational opportunities to learners in grades K – 8. A Classroom Teacher – Special Education (Teacher), acts as a keystone in facilitating and providing equal and high-quality educational opportunities to the community in which we serve. The Teacher works with guiding students in educational activities designed to promote intellectual, social and physical growth; teaches the essential skills that will contribute to students’ development as educated and responsible adults; and creates lesson plans, administers praise and constructive criticism, instructs students on subjects such as science, literature, and math, and creates a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program. Special Education Teachers work with students who have learning, mental, emotional, and / or physical disabilities. In this position, the Teacher will develop and provide specialized instruction to meet individual student needs and teach various subjects to students with mild to moderate disabilities. The Teacher will evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives as well as following State and District mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.

Middle School Spanish and ESL Teacher
Job Description Summary
Duquesne City School District believes students should be global citizens and active members of our local communities, linguistically and culturally, which necessitates students being bilingual and culturally-literate in Spanish. By integrating the World Language standards developed by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages, we aim to facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills with a near-native pronunciation, develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills, encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience, and introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning.
Qualifications and Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education required, advanced degree preferred but not required.
- PA Foreign Language, Spanish K-12, or equivalent, certification required.
- PA English as a Second Language Program Specialist certification required.
- Act 33 / 34, Act 114, and Act 151 Clearances required.
- Be fluent, have a strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, and have training in second language instruction. Be able to incorporate a deep focus on cultural understandings as well as linguistic and reading / writing capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and working directly with students.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to clearly and effectively present information, interpret data and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general public.
- Proficient with Apple technologies, Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications including, but not limited to, Word, Google Documents, Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc. and the willingness to experiment with new technologies.
Terms of Employment
Salary, work schedule, evaluation and other conditions of employment are in accordance with the current Duquesne Education Association Collective Bargaining Unit.

Day to Day Substitute Teachers: K - 8
Join our dedicated team of Educational Professionals! Individuals hired for this position will be compensated at a daily rate of $150.00. Requirements include current Pennsylvania K - 8 minimum certification and clearances (Act 33 / 34, Act 114, and Act 151) dated within the last 12 months. According to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education School Services Unit, ALL APPLICANTS FOR EMPLOYMENT with public and private schools, including student teachers and independent contractors and their employees, must undergo background checks. Act 33 / 34 (Pennsylvania Child Abuse - State Criminal History), Act 151 (Pennsylvania Child Abuse History) and Act 114 (FBI) must be renewed every five years.
