Earlier this week, Duquesne City School District middle school students spent their day job shadowing in various positions at the Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania office, including careers in security, finance, marketing, and e-commerce. Students were expected to participate in a professional manner, as if this were their actual job.

Among miscellaneous activities, some groups spent their time with VR equipment, which they used to explore various careers, like sitting in the operating room while someone was getting their knee replaced. Students participated in a reflection session to identify what they learned during their time with their mentor, and shared if the job they shadowed might be of interest to them in the future. Additionally, students networked with other students from the Clairton City School District.

Career exploration and career readiness is an important initiative for the district, and this field trip fit perfectly into that directive.
