A woman talks to three children
Jeremy Tepper

The Duquesne City School District held its annual Meet the Dukes Day/Back to School BBQ on August 27, bringing together the Duquesne City School District community for a joyous time, just a day before school starts.

Throughout the course of the event, families had an opportunity to connect with their teachers, receive resources, and receive their iPads through Verizon Innovative Learning. Students also received free backpacks and school supplies during the event.

Further, various community partners were present, like PACS, Head Start, and the Boys & Girls Club. Highmark Wholecare set up a free farmers market outside, where Duquesne City School District staff were also cooking free food for attendees.

Additionally, the district would like to extend a special thank you to Father R. Michael Zak from St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, who graciously donated 48 backpacks filled with supplies to our 2nd grade students.

Thank you to everyone who made this wonderful event possible!
