As Freddy Demery goes about each day, he approaches every minute with a positive attitude and an eagerness to help out.
“He has a pleasant demeanor and a contagious smile. He’s always willing to go above and beyond his normal duties and accommodates staff by being proactive,” said one coworker.
“He is kind and helpful,” said another coworker.
For his efforts, Demery, a custodian in the district since 2018, was voted by his peers as March’s employee of the month.
Demery, a Duquesne resident, said it's an honor to be able to give back to a community that he loves.
“I love working in my community,” said Demery. “I live in Duquesne, and enjoy working with a bunch of people that I know, as well as meeting new people.”
Coworkers are quick to point out how helpful Demery is. He takes pride in his job, and is always looking for ways to help out.
“I like helping out everyone. You don’t have to tell me to do something, I’ll just do it,” said Demery. “It’s in my nature to always help out. I’m like that at home, too.”
Demery’s friendly demeanor extends to everyone in the building, from staff to students. He is very much part of the fabric of the school district, and looks to lend a helping hand and advice to students. For Demery, a father of four children and a grandfather of six children, it just comes natural.
“I’m a family man,” said Demery. “I like talking to the kids. I have a good relationship with the students here.”
