Mr. Brian Stowell
Mr. Brian Stowell is the Director of Facilities and Safety and Security Coordinator for the Duquesne City School District and has worked in the District for the past 6 years. He has helped bring back the musical and developed the Student News Crew program at Duquesne. Prior to this position, Mr. Stowell was the Attendance Improvement Coordinator, a Personal Care Aide and a Para Educator at Duquesne.
Before he developed a passion for education, he was in the United State Armed Forces from September 1999 to May 2006. Mr. Stowell was a part of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. While stationed at Fort Bragg, Mr. Stowell packed parachutes and rigged up equipment to drop from aircraft carriers. In 2003, Mr. Stowell moved from the 82ndAirborne to Special Operations and Test Directory on Pope Airforce Base. Here he helped to test new equipment, and participate in the development of the procedure manuals on proper usage of the new equipment. During his time in the U.S. Army, he received several awards and recognitions for outstanding performance and dedication to his unit. His most notable accomplishments were two Army Accommodation Medals and the Army Achievement Medal. Mr. Stowell started his journey working with youth shortly after leaving the military by accepting a position at the maximum-security unit for at-risk youth at Adelphoi Village in Latrobe, PA. Here he mentored and helped rehabilitate these youth to become successful and positive citizens. Working at Adelphoi sparked Mr. Stowell’s passion for mentoring children.
From 2010-2012, Mr. Stowell accepted a position at LA Fitness as the Community Relations Director. Here he worked directly with the communities LA Fitness was developing new fitness centers in. Mr. Stowell not only handled consumer relations, he also handled all of the business-to-business relationships as well. In 2012, Mr. Stowell left LA Fitness and attended California University of Pennsylvania full-time to obtain his bachelor’s degrees in Special Education and Social Studies.
After 6 semesters at Cal U, certain family obligations complicated him in completing his education program. Mr. Stowell took over the family business in Pittsburgh. During his time as a business owner, he still wanted to obtain his college education.
While operating the business full-time, Mr. Stowell attended the University of Phoenix and obtained his degree in Communication and received a certificate in Marketing.
Mr. Stowell strongly believes the first step to being successful is being present.
