Special Education Classroom Teacher: K - 8
Job Description Summary
The Duquesne Education Center provides educational opportunities to learners in grades K – 8. A Classroom Teacher– Special Education (Teacher), acts as a keystone in facilitating and providing equal and high-quality educational opportunities to the community in which we serve. The Teacher works with guiding students in educational activities designed to promote intellectual, social and physical growth; teaches the essential skills that will contribute to students’ development as educated and responsible adults; and creates lesson plans, administers praise and constructive criticism, instructs students on subjects such as science, literature, and math, and creates a wellrounded, comprehensive instructional program. Special Education Teachers work with students who have learning, mental, emotional, and / or physical disabilities. In this position, the Teacher will develop and provide specialized instruction to meet individual student needs and teach various subjects to students with mild to moderate disabilities. The Teacher will evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives as well as following State and District mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
Requirements include:
• Bachelor’s degree required, higher preferred.
• Current PA K – 8 Special Education certification or equivalent certification required.

K - 8 Office Secretary
Job Description Summary
Under the direction of the Building Principal or designee, the K – 8 Office Secretary will utilize interpersonal relationship skills to serve as the “face” of the school by greeting students, parents, community members and vendors and provide them with information in a friendly and welcoming manner. The K - 8 Office Secretary will be responsible for duties such as, but not limited to, scheduling appointments, answering phones, and providing administrative support to teachers and school officials. This position requires working collectively with all District community members and staff in a fast-past, dynamic educational environment.
Job Requirements Summary
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associates degree or higher preferred.
- Experience in customer service, clerical and / or secretarial services required. A minimum of two (2) year secretarial experience or equivalent preferred.
- Current Act 33 / 34, Act 114, Act 151 clearances
- Experienced and skilled with appropriate technologies (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, internet as a reference / research tool, desktop publishing, creation of various forms, telephone / voicemail system, etc.)

(2023-2024) Dean of Students: K - 8
Job Description Summary
The Dean of Students is responsible for working closely with students, staff, and parents to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate and cultivate an environment that promotes character and academic growth. The Dean of Students responds to students’ needs, assists with student disciplinary measures, collaborates with staff members, and assists in planning social-emotional programs for students. The Dean of Students will also support the District’s initiatives in improving mental health responsiveness and provide behavioral support modifications as well as support restorative practices interventions and reinforce school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS).
Qualifications Summary
- Current PA Administrator, Principal K-12 or PK-12 certification required.
- Current PA teaching certification required.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
- Current Act 33 / 34, Act 114, Act 151 clearances required.
- First Aid / AED / CPR certification required.
- Demonstrated proficiency for effective student behavior modification. Able to relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective disciplinary program.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and working directly with students.
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Job Description Summary
Art engages students’ senses in open-ended learning and supports the development of cognitive, social-emotional and multisensory skills. The K- 8 Art Teacher will guide students to become more well-rounded and capable individuals by teaching them to develop original ideas through creative projects and practices. The K – 8 Art Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment to develop an interest in, and the ability for, creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the students’ interests and abilities, and to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

Middle School Spanish and ESL Teacher
Job Description Summary
Duquesne City School District believes students should be global citizens and active members of our local communities, linguistically and culturally, which necessitates students being bilingual and culturally-literate in Spanish. By integrating the World Language standards developed by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages, we aim to facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills with a near-native pronunciation, develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills, encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience, and introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning.
Qualifications and Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education required, advanced degree preferred but not required.
- PA Foreign Language, Spanish K-12, or equivalent, certification required.
- PA English as a Second Language Program Specialist certification required.
- Act 33 / 34, Act 114, and Act 151 Clearances required.
- Be fluent, have a strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, and have training in second language instruction. Be able to incorporate a deep focus on cultural understandings as well as linguistic and reading / writing capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and working directly with students.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to clearly and effectively present information, interpret data and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general public.
- Proficient with Apple technologies, Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications including, but not limited to, Word, Google Documents, Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc. and the willingness to experiment with new technologies.
